How is the USB2Air different from other products?
Anything you find under “Wireless USB” is for extending the ability to accept WiFi. There were some wireless USB transmission systems for video about 2-3 years ago but they were discontinued. Our is finally a reliable Wireless USB 2.0 extension system that can be used for webcams and other devices up to 30 Mbps.

As you can see from the video and audio, resolution/bandwidth chart we have above it is important to manage the amount of bandwidth your USB devices will consume. Especially when we are using a wireless signal. The USB2Air will support up to 30 Megabits per second which as you can see will allow multiple 1080p devices to operate on the same wireless channel. We create this bandwidth chart to help wireless USB extension users determine the amount of devices they can use with a USB hub.
As you can see the higher your video resolution the more bandwidth you will consume. For example, a 1080p high-quality video stream will consume 12 MBPs (Megabits per second) which is what you would expect from a regular HD webcam. Because the USB2Air has more bandwidth to spare in a situation like this you can also add additional USB 2.0 devices on a USB Hubs to extend the functionality of the wireless USB 2.0 extender. So, continuing with our example we still have 30 MBPs of Bandwdith – 12 MBPs of Bandwidth = 18 additional MBPs of bandwidth for additional USB devices. Therefore you can usually expect to able to wireless transmit two (2) 1080p video signals using a single USB2Air wireless extension system.
MAX Wireless USB 2 Distance
In my opinion, 30MBPs is a good deal of bandwidth and the more important specification is distance from each wireless transmitter and receiver. As you will see in our specifications the USB2Air wireless extension system is recommended for use at 5 meter or 15 feet. Our engineer Matthew Davis mentions that the transmitter and receiver can work at distances up to 20-25 feet (7-9 meters) but this will require perfect line-of-sight and is still not recommended for normal use.
Once you have determined the USB 2.0 devices that you will be using for wireless USB extension you should consider the distance between the USB2Air transmitters and receivers. Because this kit includes a USB 2 Hub which powers the transmitter you may also want to consider using a short USB 2.0 cable to maintain line of sight between the wireless recevier and transmitter.

One of the most useful applications for the USB2Air is the point to point wireless USB connection between a laptop and a USB 2.0 webcam. Conferencing spaces around the world have to decide whether they will have a dedicated PC powering the television or allow users to bring their own devices known as (BYOD). In the dedicated PC application where the IT managers have a dedicated PC powering the display, there is often a speakerphone at the table used for video conferencing. In this scenario, the USB2Air can be used to wirelessly connect the speakerphone to the dedicated PC. For example, we have tested multiple USB touch screen monitors from Mimo that work great such as the 10.1″ Mimo Vue HD. This device is a USB monitor that can be used to launch applications for video conferencing and collaboration much like a Crestron or Extron control system. Because the device uses a USB 2.0 connection for video and control the USB2Air works perfectly for wireless extension. The “Host” USB 2.0 extension adapter plugs into the computer and the “Device” USB 2.0 adapter connects directly into the output connection for the touch screen. The computer literally has no idea that the cabling has been transmitted wirelessly.

So in this video, we wirelessly extend the USB 2.0 for a Logitech c920 to demonstrate a popular use case for Wireless USB extension. As we mention many times in a conferencing space environment the computer is either behind the LCD or a laptop on the table. Either way the USB2Air can be used as a wireless USB extender. If your laptop is on the conference room table you can use the USB2Air to connect devices wirelessly such as a Webcam to your laptop. If you computer is behind the LCD display you can use the USB2Air to add additional products such as a document camera or touch screen controller.
The reason why the USB2Air is so special is because the latency is super low (1 millisecond). So this wireless USB extension can be used for real time applications such as video conferencing and collaboration.
